I Am Not Alone

Hello!

This is Kent Henriksen, your director of contemporary music.  Today I’m showing you a video from June 3, 2020.  This video has Samantha Koosmann singing the song “I Am Not Alone” with me accompanying her.

You may notice that I’m nowhere to be found in the video.  Can anyone guess why?  Yep.  This was pretty early on in the pandemic and we were still trying to figure out how to make music for worship without being in the same room.

I thought of this song when I looked at the text for this weekend.  This week’s scripture reading is the story of Moses delivering the Israelites out of Egypt. (Exodus 14:5-7, 10-14, 21-29)  I won’t include the whole passage here, but I encourage you to read it before listening to this song.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

When I saw the date on the recording, I couldn’t help but think about how difficult it was to live through that moment in time.  A moment of uncertainty, fear, sadness, and division.  We are certainly in a different phase of uncertainty as I type this today, but I am comforted by this text and this song.  Sometimes it’s hard to imagine what the next hour, day, month, or year will look like- but I’m grateful for God’s love through it all.
