Give to Get
Giving is Getting- all year round.
We are now in November, and the giving season has begun! Not only are November and December known for being very charitable months because of the holidays and good tidings floating around, but Minnesota as a whole has a state wide Giving Holiday in November. This holiday is meant to encourage everyone to donate to their favorite local charities.
For someone who has made it a mission to always be a part of the non-profit world as a way of creating purpose beyond the daily tasks and paycheck, the giving season is truly an inspirational and magical time. From a young age, I was taught that “giving is getting” and that the best way to better yourself and give to yourself is to give to others.
What does this mean? Giving is getting. Giving is truly one of the best things you can do in life to add more sustenance and vibrance to your day. There are so many forms of giving as well. Whether it is monetary, volunteering, vocal support or engagement, or just lending an ear to someone who needs it. All of these can give you the warm and fuzzies of the giving spirit.
Do you know what the “warm and fuzzies” you get when you give to those around you, both to those you love and to those you don’t even know, are? It’s called Love. And this, is why Giving to others is the best way to give to yourself. By spreading love, you are receiving love. This is why the giving season is so joyous, so magical. Who doesn’t love feeling seen, appreciated, warm and fuzzy? This is the best time of the year because everything we do and all the good acts we see is all rooted in spreading love and kindness.
Those in need especially feel the love this time of year. But even though it is so easy and so great to see this during the next few months, I strongly encourage you to always give to get. Beyond the holiday season, past the cold harsh winter months and going into a new spring, always be charitable with your kindness, your love, your patience, and your understanding. Do not limit it to the giving season, make every season the giving season.
Give to Get, All Year Round.
Let Us Pray:
Dear Lord, Thank you for showing your love, kindness, patience, and understanding each and every day. Help me too, to spread this to those around me. Help me Give what I can and not just when I should. Help me to be charitable in love, kindness, patience, and understanding, to those I already love, and to those who I have yet to know. Be with me and my family during this holiday season, and know that I am grateful for your charity to us as we celebrate the love we so yearn to spread. – Amen.
