Pastor Brandon NewtonExecutive Pastor
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Religion/Youth and Family Ministry from Wartburg College in 2005. I served as a youth director for 8 years (Good Shepherd Lutheran in Glenwood Springs, CO and Shepherd of the Valley in Apple Valley) prior to graduating from Wartburg Seminary in May 2015. My wife Christy and I have two children, Grace and Ezra and a third on the way! One of my hobbies is vegetable gardening, keeping me rooted to my growing up on a farm in central Illinois. I am excited to serve as a pastor at Easter and look forward to growing in faith and carrying on the work of Jesus Christ together! In 2016, I completed a certification as a Grief Support Specialist through the University of Wisconsin Continuing Education.
Pastor Steve ThomasonFamily Faith Pastor
I have had two vocational passions in my life. The first is learning and teaching about God’s love in Jesus Christ. The second is art. Both of those passions have fueled my life, and provided an income at different points along the way. My wife, Lona, and I moved to Las Vegas in 1990 to pursue my art career. Our four children were born there in the 90s. I entered into local church ministry in 1994 in adult ministries at a large church in Las Vegas. I completed a Masters of Divinity from Bethel Seminary in 2002 and then started an experimental network of house churches in Vegas. We moved to Minnesota in 2007 where I worked as a freelance illustrator/animator for three years. My father introduced me to a Lutheran pastor in Andover, MN whom God used to woo me back in into the pastorate. I transferred my ordination into the ELCA and entered into a PhD program at Lutheran Seminary in 2011. I defended my PhD dissertation in Congregational Mission and Leadership in 2015. I am so very pleased to serve as one of the pastors at Easter. My wife and I moved to Apple Valley in May, 2017 and love living in the south metro. Pastor Steve uses his art talents to create visually interesting resources for understanding the Gospel. Check out his website at stevethomason.net
Pastor Angela DenkerInterim Teaching Pastor
Pastor Angela is thrilled to serve in the interim as Easter’s part-time teaching pastor, as she returns to the Twin Cities, where she grew up. Angela comes to Easter from Orange County, CA; where she served as Pastor of Community Life and Discipleship at Messiah Lutheran Church. Prior to that, she was the solo pastor at St. Philip Lutheran Church outside Chicago. In addition to her work at Easter, Angela is a frequent contributor to Christian websites and magazines, and she blogs at A Good Christian Woman … Not that One. Angela’s first book, Red State Christians, will be published by Fortress Press in Summer 2019. Prior to becoming a Pastor, Angela was a sportswriter based in Florida, so look out for those sports analogies in her sermons! When she’s not writing or serving the church – or assisting in teaching preaching at Luther Seminary – you can find Angela wrangling her two small boys: Jacob, (5) and Joshua (2); or trying not to get clobbered on the tennis court by her husband, Ben, a mechanical engineer who she met playing basketball at the University of Missouri.
